The Transfer and Career Center on the Ventura College campus is open for business in a new location: the Student Services Center in the old library.

When fully operating, the new services center will house six different offices, including counseling, matriculation, student business, student payroll and admissions and records.

“Students should love the convenience of having all student services under one roof,” said Transfer and Career Center coordinator Aseneth Cota. It makes it easier for the new students to find the necessary offices when first enrolling in Ventura College, she said.

Cota’s offices are still filled with unopened boxes and many of the other rooms are still empty, bringing to mind a new structure. With its multicolored gray carpet, mahogany-tone furniture, hardwood floors, and an atrium, the building looks new. It will be filled with furniture on March 1; Cota said staffs are planning to move in full time during spring break. After the break all of the counseling, admissions and student business staff will be moved into the center, although not all programs will be fully functional, Cota said.

Other student services, such as the financial aid office, EOPS (Educational Opportunities Programs and Services), and the EAC (Educational Assistance Center), will have their own locations. The Financial Aid Office will be located where the old Transfer and Career Center was. EOPS will occupy its current location along with expanding into the financial aid half of that building. And EAC will occupy the counseling and admissions office.

The Transfer and Career Center gives students a variety of opportunities. “We have representatives from all the major colleges and universities who come in to let our students here at VC get to make an educated decision out of many choices for a higher education,” Cota said.

Other tools that are available to help students in those decisions include conference rooms, workshops, computers and career exploration programs.

“We have so many tools here for students and we are anxious and willing to help, so come on by,” said Norine Fine, a counseling intern at the center.
