The list of discounts allowed by the Associated Students of Ventura College cards has been revised, with some businesses dropping off the list while others remain.
Students who have already purchased their cards and are expecting discounts to certain businesses can pick up the revised list at the ASVC office.
Many restaurants have been taken off the list, such as Quiznos, Chipotle, Amecci’s Pizza and Pasta and L&L Hawaiian BBQ.
“Restaurants get small profit margins, so many have taken themselves off the list” said Richard LaPaglia, ASVC adviser.
Other businesses that have been taken off the list include Illusions Full Service Salon, Coastal Orthodontic Care, Family Vision Optometric, Next Generation Computer, Sugar Magnolias Flower Shop and Motion Tire.
Other businesses are still on board, including Fatburger, Subway, Acapulco Restaurant, Jiffy Lube, Laserstar, Dominos Pizza and many more.
The Endless Summer Tanning Salon has updated its pricing but the new list does not reflect this change. Instead of a week of unlimited tanning for $9.95, the new price is $12.95. Unlimited tanning for a month has also changed from $29.85 to $39.95.
“The prices changed awhile back,” said Amy Hunt, an Endless Summer associate.
ASVC cards cost $6 for the semester and $10 for the year, including summer. “It’s still a great deal,” LaPaglia said. “It serves as a campus library card even if you don’t renew it, [and it] gets you free or discounted admission to basketball games, football games, theater productions and campus art exhibits.”
“We’re always looking for businesses to add to the list,” LaPaglia added.
The Ventura College website suggests mentioning the ASVC card when purchasing airline tickets or visiting museums in other countries for a possible discount.
For more information a flier is available at the Student Activities and Services Center in the Campus Center near the cafeteria.
