Earth takes center stage on campus
College also celebrates poetry and poets all month long

April is Earth and Poetry Month at Ventura College, which is holding a series of events relating to poetry and campus cleanup.
Earth Action Day will run all day Wednesday, April 23, in the quad, with an animal show by America’s Teaching Zoo from Moorpark College at 10 a.m. The event will include speakers, booths, music, poetry and films. Brad Monsma, author of Sespe Wild, will speak from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Carl Morehouse, Ventura City Council member, will speak Thursday, April 24, in Room SCI-352 from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. He will speak on Seeds of the Future, a citywide program from the Citizen Outreach Committee. He will also speak on issues of land use in Ventura County, affordable housing and pedestrian transit development.
Events earlier this month included:
• a college cleanup;
•a poetry reading and writing workshop by Al Young, a California state poet laureate;
•talks by poets Amalio Madueno and Laynie Browne;
•presentations by regional planning expert Jessica Daniels and Channel Islands National Park Superintendent Russell Galipeau.
