Ventura College's swimming and diving teams took first overall last weekend in the Western State Conference. Both the men’s and women's teams took first over Cuesta College at the championships at Ventura College.

The VC pirates won the championship meet overwhelmingly and with record-breaking performances.

This is not the first time VC's swim and dive teams have taken home championships. This is the men’s sixth consecutive WSC title and the women’s eighth WSC title in the last decade. In 2005 the men’s team won the State Championship.

The Pirates also won the California state scholar team championship from 2000 to 2006. From 2004 to 2007 the VC pirates have housed the overall No. 1 swim team out of the 109 California community colleges.

The state swimming and diving championships start May 1 at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo all day through May 3.
